Accounting

Your own practice's books. Invoices, bills, transactions, time, retainers and reports.

What it is for

Accounting keeps your own practice's books: what you bill, what you pay, and where the cash went. A client's books are read on that client's engagement instead (CRM > Engagement > Books), never mixed into yours.

How to

Send an invoice

Click New invoice at the top of the rail. Track it on Accounting > Invoices, where Accounting > Invoices > Overdue shows what is late.

Pay a bill

Add it on Accounting > Bills with New bill. The people you pay are on Accounting > Vendors.

Bring in the bank

On Accounting > Transactions, click Import CSV and choose your bank's export. Select rows to Categorize them, let Torchrunner Suggest categories, or Reconcile them.

Bill your time

Click Log time on Accounting > Time. Accounting > Time > Unbilled is what you have not invoiced yet.

Track a retainer

Accounting > Retainers lists each retainer with what is left. Click New retainer to add one.

Read the numbers

Accounting > Reports has Accounting > Reports > Profit and loss and Accounting > Reports > Cash flow, for this month, this quarter, this year or the last 12 months. Turn on Compare to the period before to see the change, and Export CSV to take it away.

Good to know

  • New books start empty. Accounting > Categories has Add the standard set for a chart of accounts to start from.
  • Connect QuickBooks Online or Xero for your own books in Settings > Integrations. Only an owner or an admin can.
